Council Election

This County needs elected officials who have a vision for growing this region and who are responsive to the wants and needs of their constituents.  Clearly, those are attributes that these County Council members are lacking.

CANDIDATES NEEDED

Part of HosPAC’s mission is to support candidates who favor good, smart government and economic growth, with an emphasis on smart taxation.  We are looking to find good candidates for the following Districts:

District 3: Aspinwall, Blawnox, Brackenridge, East Deer, Etna, Fawn, Fox Chapel, Frazer, Harrison, Indiana, Millvale, O’Hara, Reserve, Shaler, Sharpsburg, Springdale and Tarentum

District 4: Bridgeville, Carnegie, Collier, Crafton, Findlay, Glen Osborne, Glenfield, Haysville, Heidelberg, Kennedy, McKees Rocks, NEville, North Fayette, Oakdale, Pennsbury, Robinson, Rosslyn Farms, Scott, Stowe and Thornburg

District 8: Braddock, Braddock Hills, Chalfant, Churchill, East McKeesport, East Pittsburgh, Edgewood, Forest Hills, Monroeville, North Braddock, North Versailles, Pitcairn, Rankin, Swissvale, Trafford, Turtle Creek and Wall

District 9: City of Duquesne, City of McKeesport, Dravosburg, Elizabeth, Forward, Glassport, Latimer Jr. High School Area, Liberty, Lincoln, Port Vue, South Versailles, Versailles, West Mifflin and White Oak

District 13: Allentown, Beltzhoover, Brighton Road, Downtown Pittsburgh, Fineview, Garfield, Lawrenceville, Manchester, Morningside, North Side, Perrysville, Polish Hill, Riverview, South Side Flats & Slopes, Spring Garden, Stanton Heights, Strip District, Troy Hill and Woods Run

WHAT COUNTY COUNCIL DOES

County Council approves the budgets submitted by the County Executive as well as submitting legislation of its own.  They are responsible for the approval of all taxes and fees imposed by Allegheny County.  Click here for more information.

QUALIFICATIONS

In order to be a member of County Council, one must be:

  1. A registered voter in Allegheny County for a period of at least one year;
  2. A resident of the Council District which he or she is proposing to represent for at least one year;
  3. One must continue to reside in the district one represents during the entire term.

Council members are compensated with $9,000 per year annually.  See Allegheny Home Rule Charter Article III, sections 4, 7.

ELECTION TIMELINE

The primary election is in May 2009.  These are the following important deadlines for candidates:

  1. Commence Collection of Nomination Petition Signatures: February 17, 2009
  2. Deadline for Submission of Nomination Petitions: March 11, 2009
  3. First Day to File Nomination Papers: March 12, 2009
  4. ELECTION DAY - MAY 19, 2009
