Brenda Frazier
HosPAC’s first goal was to defeat former Allegheny County Councilwoman Brenda Frazier Your Drink Tax Raiser who ran for State Legislature for District 21 on April 22 AND…
WE DID! WE’RE 1-O RIGHT OUT OF THE GATE!
Ms. Frazier’s lack of leadership and poor judgment in passing levies she acknowledged were not good choices showed that she should not be elevated to State Legislature. Ms. Frazier was running in the 21st Legislative District, which included some eastern neighborhoods in the City of Pittsburgh – including Morningside, Lawrenceville, Garfield and Stanton Heights – as well as municipalities across the Allegheny River, including Sharpsburg, Millvale, Etna, Reserve Township, Shaler Township, and part of Ross Township. Her opponents were former City Police Chief Dom Costa - www.electdomcosta.com and former City Councilman Len Bodack – www.bodack.com. While HosPAC did not endorsed either opponent, this much was clear: we needed to let people know to not vote for Brenda Frazier, Your Drink Tax Raiser.
35 years ago, the incomparable sports journalist Howard Cosell spoke these immortal words, “DOWN GOES FRAZIER…DOWN GOES FRAZIER…DOWN GOES FRAZIER!” And we were happy to report that HosPAC and our good friends in Bloomfield, Etna, Friendship, Garfield, Millvale, Morningside, Reserve Township, Ross Township, Shadyside, Shaler Township, Stanton Heights, and Sharpsburg shouted loud and clear too…DOWN GOES FRAZIER…DOWN GOES FRAZIER..DOWN GOES FRAZIER! With just 362 votes separating first from third (where Frazier fell), there was no doubt that our efforts cost her the election.
Our victory was a wake-up call to every Allegheny County elected official who voted for the 10% drink tax. And, it served a fair warning to anyone running for public office who voted for the drink tax will face the same passionate and organized effort to defeat them. Today, we challenge and encourage anyone running in November to publicly endorse the repeal of the drink tax and sign our Drink Tax Pledge, because we’re just getting warmed up!

Thank you District 21 for speaking loud and clear that the 10% drink tax should be repealed!
We’re proud of you!
